Frequently asked questions
Singapore or Hong Kong — which should I choose?
Singapore suits Southeast Asian expansion, technology businesses, and regional headquarters: 17% corporate tax and treaties with 80+ countries. Hong Kong suits mainland China operations and cross-border e-commerce: 16.5% profits tax, no VAT, and free capital movement. The right answer depends on where customers, suppliers, and banking relationships sit.
What is the difference between apostille and consular legalization?
Apostille applies between Hague Convention states and is a single-step certification by a designated authority, usually in 3–5 working days. Consular legalization applies outside the Convention and requires two steps — foreign ministry authentication followed by embassy or consulate legalization — usually 5–10 working days.
Do I need to travel to register a company?
Generally no. Singapore and Hong Kong accept fully electronic incorporation, the UK’s Companies House is online, and most US states allow foreign owners to form an LLC remotely. Some banks require a video interview, which can also be done remotely.
What ongoing maintenance does an overseas company need?
Typically an annual return, bookkeeping and audit where required, tax filings, a registered office and company secretary, and licence renewals. We offer annual compliance packages with advance reminders to avoid penalties or strike-off.
Why are overseas bank accounts difficult to open?
Banks apply strict KYC and source-of-funds checks, and some have tightened policies for certain client profiles. Approval rates improve with a clear business plan, documented source of funds, and a bank whose risk appetite matches the business. We review the file before submission and coach the interview.
